Vivitrol Treatment in South Carolina

Most people with substance use disorders will need to participate in drug rehab treatment programs to successfully recover. At Vertical Treatment Centers, we offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which is a treatment approach that combines the use of medication with behavioral health counseling to aid patients in overcoming substance use disorders. Our Vivitrol® Treatment Program is a MAT program that offers behavioral health counseling and Vivitrol® to address the root issues of alcohol use disorders.

How Do Vivitrol® Injections Work?

Vivitrol® is a prescription medication used to treat alcohol and other substance addiction.

Vivitrol® is a brand name for the intramuscular injection naltrexone, a medication that has been used to treat addiction for decades. Naltrexone, is as an opioid antagonist, which means it reduces the pleasure associated with opioids and other narcotics by reducing their effects in the brain. Naltrexone has been shown to reduce the use of alcohol, illegal substances, and even prescription pharmaceuticals such as opioids when used as an addiction treatment.

Why Start a Vivitrol® Treatment Program?

Vivitrol® is a once-monthly injection that is used as an alternative to treatments such as oral naltrexone, Suboxone® or methadone. Studies have shown that Vivitrol® effectively reduces cravings in patients who have already detoxed from alcohol or opioids.

Vertical Treatment Center is not a detox center; instead, it is an outpatient clinic aimed at helping people stay in recovery for the long term. If you are interested in Vivitrol® for alcohol or opioid addiction treatment, give us a call today!

Vivitrol® for Alcohol

Consuming large amounts of alcohol over a long period can result in alcohol use disorder, a physical and psychological dependency on alcohol. Common signs and symptoms of alcoholism include a strong desire or need to drink, the inability to control the amount of alcohol used, and the failure to fulfill responsibilities because of alcohol use.

Vivitrol® has been proven to reduce how often recovering alcoholics engage in heavy drinking. Vivitrol® works by interrupting the addictive pattern of alcohol by blocking the endorphins produced by alcohol from creating their usual reaction in the brain. Essentially, Vivitrol® blocks the pleasure created by alcohol. When the pleasure decreases, the person’s drive to drink or misuse drugs declines.

Vivitrol® has also been proven to reduce the overall likelihood of a patient continuing to drink during treatment. Think Vivitrol® is right for you? Give Vertical Treatment Centers a call today!
